Kim and I both had a miss spent youth growing up!
The home I was born into was full of alcoholism. My dad worked in the oilfield and my mom was a stay at home mom. Both were alcoholics, mom was one that would not go anywhere without a bottle of vodka in her purse and dad drank all the time.
So at a young age I desired to be like my hero , my dad! He came to all my baseball game, always drinking . But alcohol took its toll on him and died at the age of 51. I was 18. The next 8 yrs were a blur. Married and divorced. Prison and rehab and county jails.
I was spiraling out of control.
I hit my bottom and got sober after big blow up with Kim .
I couldn’t live like this anymore! I was gonna lose my life one way or another!! Broken!
I stayed sober for a year. During that year I was introduced to the Gospel of Jesus. The first time that Truth offended me. But the seed was planted.
The second time I heard the gospel I was curious to its claims and began to “seek the Truth” Guess what !! I found that Truth and His name was Jesus. That was 25 years ago!! Here we are serving God at this awesome place called NYOC! Not Your Ordinary Church!!
Kim’s story leads us down a similar path. Raised in a home where her uncle was a drug dealer and a pimp. She was exposed to many horrors of that lifestyle and began to run in rebellion at a young age. Weed and alcohol and rebellion ran her life.
Having a baby at the age of 15. She was alone and the young man that was the father of the child was very unfaithful, in and out of prison. She found herself desperate for a new life.
We crossed paths and lived wild lives together . Meth and alcohol was at the forefront of our lives!
After moving to another town trying to escape the craziness Kim found herself on her knees asking Jesus to save her after she had watched Life Today with James Robinson on television.
I followed suit a few short months later!
Fast forward to today and we find ourselves celebrating 25 years of marriage and now 5 years of ministry here at NYOC !!
If there is one thing that I know for sure is that Kim and I are are right in the middle of Gods will for us and this community!!! Jesus has done a mighty work and we are His willing vessels!!!
To Love God and to Love People through the Gospel message is our calling!! And that’s what we will do!
